When we think of farming, we picture fields of crops, tractors, and grazing cows, but agriculture involves much more. It includes growing crops, feeding livestock, irrigating fields, adapting to weather, and using technology to boost efficiency—all of which rely on effective water management.
Despite Alberta’s dry climate, farming has flourished in the province for over a century. With nutrient-rich soil and abundant sunshine, the province leads in producing canola, wheat, barley, and cattle. Alberta’s extensive irrigation system supports a diverse range of crops, even those needing more water than rainfall provides.
