WHY

The Lee Creek watershed is critical habitat for Bull Trout and Westslope Cutthroat Trout – and both of these populations are listed as “threatened” under the federal Species at Risk Act. As part of TUC’s ongoing efforts to recover these fishes, we are working towards habitat improvements in the Lee Creek watershed. These efforts are aimed at decreasing sedimentation (muddy run-off from trails and bare ground), improving riparian (shoreline) health, and improving connectivity between habitats. Volunteers will contribute to the project by helping with direct on-the-ground improvements.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

Volunteers will use live willow stakes for streambank restoration activities. These bioengineering activities will help stabilize slumping banks and recover damaged riparian areas as well as helping these streams to hold water for longer, replenishing groundwater resources and boosting riparian health.

WHERE?

Volunteers can meet at the Cardston A&W at 9:30 AM.

Volunteers will sign in at the meeting place, then we will travel as a convoy to the staging area for the Lee Creek project.

WHO CAN I ASK IF I HAVE QUESTIONS?

Please call Elliot Lindsay, Project Biologist, at 403-615-8102 with any questions or concerns, or if you are lost.
